 Giving Thanks -

 the Secret to Success

October 7, 2018

Pastor Kyle Wijnands

What are you speaking?

  • Psalm 107:2 says,  "Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others he has redeemed you from your enemies!"

  • So often the things we ask God for are the things we complain about such as finances, church, cars, etc. Everything we pray for we must have a good attitude about.

What would our day look like if we would only have the things that we thanked         God for yesterday?

  • If we have been redeemed, we must talk about it! We cannot just talk about the bad things.

The Effects of Complaining

  • Numbers 14:2, 4 And all the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The congregation said to them, "Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would that we had died in this wilderness!"And they said to one another, "Let us choose a leader and go back to Egypt."

  • They begged to go back into Egypt, where God had miraculously delivered them out of.

  • Numbers 14:26-27 And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, How long shall this wicked congregation grumble against me? I have heard the grumblings of the people of Israel, which they grumble against me.

  • Numbers 14:29-35 are the consequences the children of Israel received. They had to wander in the wilderness and were not allowed to go into the promised land.

  • When we stop praising God and start complaining, we open ourselves up to dangerous demonic activity to come into our life.

  • Complaining will hinder

    • us from reaching souls

    • our marriage

    • our finances

    • our physical and mental health

Complaining is sin!

  • If our honest reflections of how difficult life is doesn't end with but God, it is sin.

  • Complain means to remain.

  • When we let it stay overnight, it turns into weeks, then months, then years.

  • When we complain, we will miss out on so many opportunities.

  • In Numbers 14:26-27 talks about when the children of Israel were complaining, they were actually murmuring against God. They were not able to enter into the promised land but instead had to wander in the wilderness for 40 years.

  • When we complain, we actually prophesy our own problems into existence.

  • A problem we face could be a manifestation of our words.

God wants us to succeed!

  • The word thankfulness is found in the Bible 116 times!

  • 73 times it proceeds with giving thanks -it's not optional!

  • Humility is the foundation for thankfulness. Pride will always bring a place of complaining. Pride says, "I don't deserve this". We actually deserve MUCH worse! But God stepped in and saved us!

A Personal Reflection

  • Write down the 3 things that I am most thankful for

  • Ask yourself,

  1. What did God do to make it possible for me to have these things?

  2. What is the enemy doing to try to take these things away?

The best way to let these things stay and grow in our lives is to give them to God.

Let go and let God!

He is more interested in keeping those safe more than we are!

Let's give back to God what he has given to us!
